UNICAL VC Appears Before TETFUND Gives Explanation For Abandoned Projects
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Prof. Florence Banku Obi, appeared before the management of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) on 21st June 2022 to explain why the University has abandoned projects years after money was released.
The meeting which is said to be at the instance of the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, is a direct fallout of the new Executive Secretary’s efforts of making heads of beneficiary institutions accountable through judicious application of project funds.
Prof. Obi explained the reasons for such abandonment to include poor management and misapplication of project funds, unwarranted variations, management interference with job professionals, deviation from approved designs, structural defects and lack of capacity of some contractors among others.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor who thanked the Executive Secretary and the TETFund Management team for the opportunity and privilege provided by the meeting, used the opportunity to once more congratulate the Executive Secretary on his appointment.
It would be recalled that Prof. Obi had earlier promised that her administration will ensure that all abandoned projects by previous administrations would be completed.
