EARLIER, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) was ranked among the top five best universities in Nigeria, by AD Scientific Index, a leading global ranking body based in Turkey.

The University Of Calabar (UNICAL) has emerged as the 13th best university in Nigeria in 2021, according to rankings by Webometric 2021.
According to the ranking result recently released by the body, the best university in Nigeria is University Of Ibadan (UI) followed by Covenant University, which came second, while the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), rated 3rd best among the 100 ranked Universities in the country.
While shedding light on the ranking criteria, the Management of Webometric, a leading Spain based Institutions ranking organisation stated that four (4) ranking factors were used which include; openness rank, impact rank, presence rank, and excellence rank, noting that, those four factors were the criteria used to determine which Universities tops the table out of all Universities Institutions in Nigeria.
Webometric ranking of the World Universities/ Institutions is the initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), the largest Public Research body in Spain.
