Incessant Fire Outbreaks In UNICAL Raise Fears

The students of the University Of Calabar (UNICAL) on Wednesday raised alarm over the frequent fire outbreaks in the University community.

It would be recalled that on the 20th January 2022, there was a fire outbreak in Room 115, Hall 6 in the Malabor Republic of University of Calabar hostels.

On the 29th January 2022, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University Of Calabar (UNICAL), was gutted by fire.

An eyewitness said, “the cause of the fire is still unknown, as the incident occurred in the night hours of Saturday”.

The fire incident led to the destruction of major offices in the department, as well as the burning of some valuables like tables, documents, air conditioners appliances, amongst other office equipment.

Also, on the 6th February 2022, there was a fire outbreak in the department of History and International studies which affected the department of International Law and Jurisprudence.

Furthermore, on the 8th February 2022, there was a fire outbreak at the department of Continous education and development studies.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Florence Obi stated that whatever her administration is doing now is for the ultimate good of the university.

She said the management is doing everything possible to get the University functioning at an optimal level and assured that with the ONGOING INVESTIGATION, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
