How To Become A Lawyer In Nigeria 2022/2023
To become a lawyer, you must have met the following basic requirements:
- To become a lawyer, you must have studied law at the university and passed the basic courses as stipulated by the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria.
- To become a lawyer, you must have the qualifying certificate from Nigerian Law School by passing the Bar Examinations and be ascertained by the body of Benchers to be a “Fit and Proper” person.
- To become a lawyer, you must go for NYSC.
- You must have been called to the Nigerian Bar.
The above are the basic qualifications to practice law in Nigeria.
However, to qualify for admission into any Nigerian University to study law, you must have a minimum of five credits to include English Language, Literature in English, and Mathematics.

It must further be noted that the qualification awarded in the universities is L.L.B and this takes a minimum of (5) five years for UTME and (4) four years for direct entry.

The First 5 years will be spent in accredited law faculty in Nigeria, then the remaining two years for the Nigerian law school and NYSC.
